Habitats and species of interest

The Natura 2000 Data Form (SDF) corresponding to the Chinijo Archipelago SAC (ES7010045) indicates the types of natural habitats and the species of community interest for which this space was included in the Natura 2000 Network. This information was incorporated into the declaration of the Chinijo Archipelago as SAC ES7010045, through Decree 174/2009 (BOC No. 7, 01/13/2010). According to both sources, the SAC Archipiélago Chinijo (ES7010045) houses a total of 11 types of habitat from Annex I of the CD 92/43/EEC, which together add up to an area of more than 1,684 ha, that is, the 19 % of the total area occupied by the SAC. Among these habitat types, type 2130* stands out (habitat targeted by LIFE INSULAR conservation actions) as the only representation of a priority habitat type within this SAC, with an estimated area of 58.6 ha, which represents 0.7% of the total territorial scope of the SAC, and 3.5% of the total area occupied by the types of natural habitats.

The variety of habitat types identified in the Chinijo Archipelago SAC (ES7010045) makes it an important bastion for biodiversity conservation. At regional level, this space, which represents 2% of the area occupied by the Natura 2000 Network of the Canary Islands, houses 46% of all the types identified in it, and 14% of all the priority types identified in the network. autonomic However, it is also a relevant SAC for conservation at a biogeographical level, since the space represents just over 1% of the total Natura 2000 Network in the Macaronesian biogeographical region, and yet it is home to 27% of all identified habitats. in it (Vera et al. 2010), and 10% of all the priority types present in said biogeographical region.

This space is also of great importance for the species of flora of community interest, since according to the SDF Natura 2000 and Decree 174/2009 by which it was declared as SAC, it is possible to recognize a total of 7 species included in the Annex II of the CD 92/43/EEC, of which 3 are considered priority: Androcymbium psammophilum, Atractylis arbuscula and Convolvulus lopezsocasi. With regard to the species in Annex I of CD 2009/147/EC that have motivated the declaration of the SPA Islotes del norte de Lanzarote y Famara (ES0000040), territorially coinciding largely with the SAC Archipiélago Chinijo (ES7010045), in In the FDS of said SPA, the permanent species Bucanetes githagineus, Burhinus oedicnemus, Chlamydotis undulata, Cursorius cursor, Falco peregrinus, Neophron percnopterus, Pandion haliaetus and Puffinus assimilis stand out, while among the colony of breeding birds in Annex I, Bulweria bulberii, Calonectris diomedea, Falco eleonorae, Hydrobates pelagicus, Oceanodroma castro and Pelagodroma marina. Many of these species of flora and fauna find their refuge, breeding, reproduction or feeding areas within the 2130* habitat (or in the habitats that contact it), so that its conservation has a positive impact on the maintenance in a favorable conservation status of the species of community interest present in this SAC.

Priority type 2130* is one of the habitat types that represent the largest area within the SAC Archipiélago Chinijo (ES7010045), and which finds its best representations in the island complex of La Graciosa, housing important key elements for the conservation of biodiversity.
