2026/05/25: The Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park celebrated the European Day of Parks 2026

The Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park joined the celebration of the European Day of Parks 2026 last 24 May, an initiative promoted by the Europarc network, to which it belongs, under the slogan “Connected by nature”. The event focused on the importance of keeping the natural habitats and ecological corridors of protected areas throughout Europe connected in order to guarantee the survival and adaptation of species in a context of environmental change.

From the Cíes Islands, the protected area highlighted the value of cooperation between territories and shared conservation, promoting broad, connected and resilient ecological networks that allow species to move, adapt and thrive, overcoming administrative borders and strengthening international collaboration.

The celebration also coincided with a key moment for the archipelago, marked by the environmental restoration works currently being carried out in the Cíes thanks to the LIFE INSULAR project. Among the most notable actions is the process of removing invasive species such as eucalyptus and acacias, an intervention that will make it possible to restore native vegetation and promote natural balance in the long term.
