2026/03/20: Development of an innovative root elongation system to improve camariña restoration

Within the framework of dune ecosystem restoration work under the LIFE INSULAR project, a solution has been implemented to improve the survival of camariña (Corema album). The use of sand from the natural environment has proven essential to preserve the soil’s natural microbiota, promoting plant development.

This methodology was developed by Rubén Paz, a student at CIFP Santiago, who designed a tube-based system to extend the roots and facilitate access to deeper moisture. Tests carried out with camariña showed remarkable growth, confirming the effectiveness of this innovative method.
