The propagation of plant material in the Galician locations of LIFE INSULAR is progressing at a good pace and is beginning to achieve satisfactory results with most of the chosen species. Protocols have been developed that ensure the successful production of plants, both from seed and from vegetative reproduction, using advanced in-vitro micropropagation techniques.
This action is being developed by IBADER from University of Santiago de Compostela, with the external assistance of the AgroBioTech for Health research group from University of Vigo, a team specialized in micropropagation of threatened plant species.
The production of its own reproduction material allows LIFE INSULAR to introduce plants of local and compatible origin, avoiding the use of allochthonous ecotypes that can cause genetic contamination.
