2022/06/08: First publication on island territories from LIFE INSULAR project

As a result of the preparatory actions of LIFE INSULAR project (LIFE20 NAT/ES/001007), consisting in the evaluation of the conservation status of the island territories included within the Marine-Terrestrial National Park of the Galician Atlantic Islands, the review of the previous information and the state of the art with respect to this protected natural area made possible the publication of the work "Galician Atlantic Islands National Park: Challenges for the Conservation and Management of a Maritime-Terrestrial Protected Area", as one of the book chapters "Protected Area Management - Recent Advances".

The paper assesses the past and present challenges in the Marine-Terrestrial National Park of the Galician Atlantic Islands, where the conservation and management of biodiversity has evolved over time in a significant way, providing a valid case study applicable to other national parks around the world, as well as similar situations in other contexts and scenarios. Future challenges arise in the National Park to improve the conservation status of natural habitats and wildlife, mainly through new European initiatives that can establish important synergies with other countries.
